What is "Storied Yoga"?
Yoga is a practice of body, mind and spirit that originated in South Asia. Asana practice, or physical postures, is but one limb of the tree that is yoga. Storied Yoga is a series of classes that connects asana practice with a story. In "The Warrior" we explore the cultural roots of the Virabhadrasana poses (Warrior I, II, and III) by moving through the story of Shiva, Sati, and Virabhadra. We will also talk about how asana practice fits into the overall framework of yoga, and how to apply the story and poses to our lives.
Our practice will begin with Om, a mantra, and some brief yoga philosophy. We will then move through the poses together with many options given to accommodate all ages and ability levels. We will end with some focused breathing and a call for peace.
What do I need?
Bring a mat if you would like to use one and your own water. Wear comfortable clothing- you don't necessarily need "gym clothes", just something you can move in!
Is it hard?
No! This class is designed for all ability levels. Some poses, such as Virabhadrasana III, or Warrior III, challenge our balance. Others push our mobility. We will take our time to set up each pose, and you will be given variations to choose from to. You can always opt out of a pose.
